  • 1/3 cup tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup)
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix all the spices together and set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine tomato paste, water, honey (or maple syrup), molasses, and apple cider vinegar. Stir until well combined.
  3. Add the spice mixture from Step 1 into the saucepan and stir thoroughly.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to low heat.
  5. Let it simmer for about 30 minutes while stirring occasionally.
  6. If desired, adjust the consistency by adding additional water until you achieve your preferred thickness.
