  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (or dairy-free butter)
  • 2 quarts water (for baking soda bath)
  • ¼ cup baking soda (for baking soda bath)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (for baking soda bath)
  • Coarse sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine gluten-free flour, brown sugar, yeast, baking powder, salt, warm water, egg, and butter. Mix until smooth.
  2. Let the dough rise in an oiled bowl for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Divide the dough into 12 pieces and roll each into a rope about 9 inches long. Shape into pretzels by twisting and folding.
  5. Boil each pretzel in a baking soda bath for 10 to 15 seconds; then place on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt and bake for 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown.
